Glanzman Sensitivity Reading offers quality review of manuscripts for stereotypical/harmful content concerning diverse characters. We are accepting manuscripts ranging from children's literature to adult.

 

(NOTE: If sex scenes are present, they must be in a limited amount and not the central focus of the plot. No Erotica.)

What Nathaniel CAN read for:

  • Autism Spectrum Disorder/Asperger's Syndrome

  • Transgender (*Although he is FtM, he has experience reading for MtF characters)

  • Bipolar Disorder

  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (*Non-combat related)

  • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder

  • Anxiety (Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Social Anxiety, panic attacks, etc.)

  • Depression

  • Biracial/POC (*Filipino)

  • Asian American

  • Learning Disabilities (*Dyscalculia)

  • Seasonal Affective Disorder

  • Suicidal Ideation/Attempts

  • Being in a psychiatric hospital

What Nathaniel CANNOT read for:

  • Stories involving graphic scenes of rape/sexual assault (*Scenes with limited sensory details or stories that simply mention rape are acceptable.)

  • Any sexual disorder, including pedophilia

  • Black/African-American

  • Schizophrenia

  • Any Nonbinary identity

  • Muslim

  • Physical disabilities

  • Working class

  • *Any identity that is not on the above list, due to lack of personal experience*

What a sensitivity reader does:

  • Read through the manuscript for any sign of microaggressions/unwitting prejudice such as ableism, transphobia, sexism, etc. in the form of slurs, stereotypes and harmful representation.

  • Give the author feedback on where these errors take place and suggestions on how to fix them.

  • Inform the author of current trends involving what marginalized groups want in fictional character portrayals.

What a sensitivity reader does NOT do:

  • Fix the errors/microaggressions in the manuscript for the author

  • Proofread or edit the manuscript
